Medical Massage

Over the past 13 years I have had many clients who suffered accident injuries and have achieved terrific results. Best of all, insurance can cover some treatments.

Here are some examples of people we’ve helped:

Patient #1

Medical Massage can heal many injuries, such as sore backs and carpal tunnel
Medical Massage can heal many injuries

A woman came to the clinic with pain and numbness in both hands.  She had little sensation and some limitation to her grip strength.

She’d had medical assessments and a diagnosis of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, along with surgeries on both wrists, with the corresponding costs of time, thousands of dollars in expenses, and recovery.

She told me that it didn’t do anything for her symptoms.

When I saw her to discuss a treatment plan, I too, did an assessment of her symptoms.  I was able to check a few areas on her body to confirm location of nerve entrapment.  She had surgeries on her wrists but I found the problem way up in her neck.  This was true for both sides!  I released some of the musculature and she immediately felt results.

“I can feel my hands and haven’t felt that for a long time!” she said during the first treatment.  She continued her treatments for a few weeks to maintain her success and can now just go back for tune ups when she needs it.

Summary:  Neither surgery helped at all.  Cade helped her in a single session.

Patient #2

During a snowy, icy winter in Minneapolis, a man came to the Hands of Health Bodywork Clinic with intense lower back pain from shoveling snow.  He could barely walk and was hunched over quite a bit.

Just seeing him walk in following a recent snow, I was able to guess what was wrong right away.  He “threw out his back,” meaning he strained several muscles needed to stand comfortably upright.  Instead of going straight to the back, I actually worked in his abdominal region to release a couple of muscles.  Then, after treating the root cause, I attended to the lower back.  In one session the man was well on his way to walking normally.  He said, “I can stand up straight again!”

Summary:  This patient experienced immediate relief, with a fast healing process.  No further treatments were needed.

Why Medical Massage Works

Medical/therapeutic massage are the same thing in a treatment sense.  Medical massage just means that it has been approved by a doctor as part of a treatment plan for a specific condition or issue(s).  All medical massage is therapeutic but not all therapeutic massage is medical.

Both work by helping the body heal itself.

Some cases require 8 to 12 weeks of consistent treatments.  And others can be relieved in one session. It’s always an individual experience in the healing process but I won’t sell you on treatment you don’t need.

3 Step formula for Medical Massage

  1. Perform an extremely detailed patient examination prior to any treatment plan. This includes a visual examination and layer-by-layer soft tissue examination. This strategy means whole body healing instead of “band-aid” fixes.
  2. I have a solid understanding many of the mechanisms behind pathological dysfunction.  This global, whole-body approach, is about causation and the following compensation injuries that often accompany.
  3. The Treatment Plan is carefully designed for complex cases with a variety of symptoms. and as the process evolves, I can adjust treatment  for the new needs. Prioritizing therapies allows the fastest healing and ensures a greater level of success.

A Medical Massage differs from spa massage in 3 ways:

Medical Massage often helps Sports Injuries
Medical Massage often helps Sports Injuries
  1. A spa massage usually focuses on overall relaxation. A medical/therapeutic massage entails a series of appointments that focuses on specific areas of pain to increase healing blood flow. Injuries often lead to stress on other muscles and joints to compensate and a Medical Massage will ease that discomfort as well.
  2. A Medical Massage Therapist has a wide variety of therapies available to target and help healing.
  3. Medical Massage includes a targeted treatment plan with timed visits versus the sporadic spa treatments.
  4. Medical Massage is often covered by insurance;  Here is more information
